Stef is a PhD candidate in the Molecular and Cellular Biology program. As part of her thesis research, she is using CRISPR-Cas nucleases to test their effectiveness and specificity at mutating flowering genes in poplars and eucalypts. The CRISPR-Cas nuclease system is the most novel and effective site-directed gene editing tool available today. She is also working on a recombinase system to remove transgenes, in particular the CRISP-Cas nucleases, from genetically modified trees.
